Saying Farewell To Board of Airport Commissioners President Beatrice Hsu:

Thursday's Board of Airport Commissioners Meeting was an historic one, as we shared our gratitude and bid farewell to BOAC President Beatrice Hsu, who has served as a Commissioner on the Board of Airport Commissioners since 2013, and as Commission President from 2021 to 2023. Under her guidance and leadership, our airports have seen tremendous modernization and transformation. President Hsu has led with a focus not only on delivering world-class airports for our guests, but also on being a first-class neighbor to our community and a true leader in the industry. Since her appointment to the Board of Airport Commissioners, Ms. Hsu has contributed her invaluable industry expertise and insightful counsel for Los Angeles World Airports as we have undertaken the immense reimagining of both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport. Her extensive development experience in service to both public and private sectors has helped us drive our multi-billion-dollar transformation – including the previous overhaul of the Tom Bradley International Terminal and Central Utility Plant facilities, the Landside Access Modernization Program, the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program, the West Gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal, the Airport Police Facility, the upcoming Terminal 9 and LAX Landscaping Projects, and many other guest experience and facilities improvements – all while upholding our promise to deliver Gold Standard Airports. Ms. Hsu has led with a commitment to fulfill our mission even during the unprecedented events surrounding the health and social crises of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has ensured that our airports continue to be industry leaders in safety and security, inclusivity, sustainability and innovation. We thank President Hsu for her service and dedication to LAWA, and we wish her luck in her next chapter!

LAWA Recognizes Airlines and Operators For Efforts To Reduce Aircraft Noise: On Thursday, LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci and Chief Sustainability and Revenue Management Officer Samantha Bricker celebrated LAWA’s recognition of nine airlines as winners of the annual Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Fly Quieter Award and 20 operators as winners of the Van Nuys Airport (VNY) Friendly Flyer Award. These awards recognize our partner's efforts to reduce aircraft noise through voluntary operational practices and implementation of noise-reducing technology, as well as community engagement. The LAX Fly Quieter Program and the VNY Fly Friendly Program are part of LAWA's commitment to being a good neighbor, and to find solutions that mitigate the impact of noise on our nearby communities. We thank our airline partners and aircraft operators for making extra efforts to engage with the community and minimize noise impacts, and we look forward to continuing to work together to continue the progress made in this important area. We celebrated the achievements of the 2022 winners during the Board of Airport Commissioner's meeting. LAX Hosts Workshop On Advanced Air Mobility: On Friday, LAWA hosted a workshop focused on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) at LAX. AAM is an emerging aspect of aviation that could greatly benefit regional transportation, including the use of a new class of vehicles, primarily electric, that can take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We were joined by leaders and subject matter experts from the FAA, several LAX airlines and a few of the companies manufacturing these vehicles – the first of which are expected to be certified by the FAA in 2025. We had productive discussions around the possible uses, locations for operations, community engagement and other priorities in the critical path to successful and safe operations.

APD received the torch from El Segundo PD, and APD finished their leg at the Airport Police Facility. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California is the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics with more than 2,000 officers involved in Southern California championing acceptance and inclusion.
